Online Learning

Students who do not do well learning in the traditional classroom now have a new option. Online learning is available for students who need or want an alternative educational setting. The program, Cyber School, allows students to graduate without having to walk in a classroom. Many of the students who utilize this program are those that are at risk. Attending school may not be their first priority. Many of them have to work during the normal school hours. Enrolling into Cyber School allows students to focus on school when it fits best in their day, whether it be at 10 a.m. or 10 p.m..

I think this online alternative will be very good for students who have difficulty with the traditional classroom setting. I believe that as online learning may not be right for everyone, sitting in a desk with a teacher writing on the chalkboard and lecturing may also not be right for all students. Students can have the opportunity to work at their own pace and on their own schedule. This gives them a sense of freedom and want to do well. For some students, not working during the day is not an option. If they have to drop out of school to bring in an income, this alternative will allow them to do both. It will also eliminate a great number of distractions that many students may see during the school day that hinders their education. Students just need to stay focused and have discipline to still attend online classes and complete their assignments.

  1. I think online learning is a great alternative for students also. This allows them to still get the education they need, and still get the diploma or degree they are trying to recieve. The problem arises only if they are not displined. When you take online course you have to be disciplined because you may not have someone looking over your shoulder making sure you are doing what you are supposes to be doing...like a parent or tutor. So, if the student is serious and focused they should not have any problems with online learning.

  2. I agree also that online learning is a great alternative to a traditional setting for some students, But I also think we need to look at the flip side and allow our other studetns the same opportunity. Online learning should be avaialble to all types of students. Especially given the requirements in our high schools. Why not let our students get ahead with online classes as well. Just another way of thinking things out.

  3. I believe that online learning is a great alternative for those students who have not had success in the standard classroom setting. I also beleive it will go a step further to assist other demographics of students reach their educational goals.

Just think, finally, there is a program that will meet the needs of students who begin their own families prior to completing their educational requirements for a diploma. Often children drop out of school after having babies of their own. But, this new program will help this type of student maintain dignity and complete the process in their own time and at their own pace.
The other demographic to consider is the student who must begin working to help support his parents or who must begin to care for younger siblings due to the loss of a parent. Often these students are left with no options for obtaining a diploma. Now, with online, alternative and hybrid instruction, this students needs can also be met.
Ultimately, this is a win win for all involved. I am happy that educators are beginning to think out of the box as it relates to what determines student success.
